Tilma Ties for Seventh, Shockers Take Eighth at AAC Championship

4/16/2025 2:33:00 PM

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Headlined by a top-ten finish by junior Kate Tilma, the Wichita State women's golf team finished eighth at the 2025 American Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship at Southern Hills Plantation Club.

Two-seed Tulsa easily won the team title, posting an 852 (-12), beating second-place Charlotte by 21 strokes.

Tulsa's Romaine Masserey won the conference individual crown with a 209 (-7) performance, just one stroke better than Charlotte's Jette Schulze who finished second.

For Wichita State, Tilma was far and away the best Shocker at the Championship, finishing tied for seventh place on the individual leaderboard. No other Shocker finished in the top 30 with Mackenzie Wilson being the next-highest finisher, tying for 32nd.

In round two, Kate Tilma put together a field-best 67 score, jumping up 20 spots on the scoreboard into fourth place. Her second round was the best individual round score of any competitor in the entire tournament.

The 67 score ties the second-best 18-hole score by any Shocker all-time in any tournament, only surpassed by Taryn Torgerson's 64 score at the 2018 AAC Championship. Tilma became the first Shocker not named Torgerson to record a round score of 67 or better since Bryce Schroeder shot a 67 at the Johnie Imes Invitational on September 29, 2015.

Tilma kept pace with the leader for much of the third round, but a triple bogey on hole one put her out of contention for the individual title.

The Wichita native is one of only three Shockers to finish in the top ten at the AAC Championship, joined by Taryn Torgerson's win in 2018 and a ninth-place finish by Laine Evans that same year.

The Shockers' team finish of eighth was their second-highest finish competing in the AAC.
