Brooklyn Benn and
Mackenzie Wilson captured a pair of top-ten individual finishes to lead the Wichita State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
The Shockers took third, their best finish in any tournament this season. The Black and Yellow finished with a total score of 915, 51 strokes over par.
Texas State overcame a rough start to take the win in their home tournament with a score of 899, 38 strokes over par. Competing as an individual, Oklahoma State's Summer Lee won the individual crown with a score of 214, two strokes under par.
On day one, the Shockers struggled early and often to open the spring, finishing 29 strokes over par, which had the Shockers tied for seventh in the ten-team field, and seven strokes out of the top five.
The Shockers improved tremendously in round two later in the day, improving by 12 strokes to finish 17 strokes over par and move closer to the top five. Benn and Wilson led the improvement project for the Shockers as they both made jumps into the top 15 with a one-under round from Benn and a one-over round from Wilson.
In round three, the pair continued their success, with Wilson recording an eagle on her final hole to finish two strokes under par. Benn replicated her round two success with another one-under round. Freshman
Amelie Paul had her best round of the tournament, finishing just one-over in round three to help pace the Shockers to a third-place finish in Texas.
Making her collegiate debut after arriving at Wichita State in January,
Kayla Van de Ven had a solid first showing, as she led the Shockers in birdies with 10.
Competing as an individual,
Lara Stifter put up her highest finish of year, taking 42
nd place.

The spring season continues for the Shockers at the Rio Verde Invitational at Quail Run Golf Course, in Rio Verde, Arizona, beginning on February 21.
