FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Wichita State's
Yared Kidane set a new American Athletic Conference 800 meters record, finishing second at the Arkansas Qualifier with a personal-best time of 1:47.21.
The redshirt-junior from Sweden increased his lead on the rest of the American Athletic Conference field to almost three seconds and moved up to No. 25 in the NCAA rankings in the 800 meters in the final meet before the AAC Indoor Championships. His time breaks an 11-year-old conference record of 1:47.96 set by UConn's Alvaro Chavez in 2014.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Kate Campos ran a personal best time of 8.37 in the final to take fifth and improve her mark at No. 5 in school history. She ranks sixth in the AAC in the event.
Jason Parrish clocked a 21.60 to finish eighth in the 200 meters, moving up to No. 9 in school history.
Grace Lange joined the 12-meter club, jumping a personal-best 12.12m/39'9.25" in the triple jump to take second and move up to No. 6 in the AAC.
Brianna Utecht jumped a personal best of 5.81m/19'0.75" to place third in the women's long jump, and
Josh Parrish took fifth in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.38m/24'2.5".
Ridge Estes took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 16.12m/52'10.75", and
Sydney Brown finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 24.37.
The Shockers head to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the AAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
