WGLF Preview: Texas State Invitational

BLANCO, Texas – The Wichita State women's golf team begins the spring season on Monday, February 3 in the Texas State Invitational at Vaaler Creek Golf Club.
 
The spring season represents new opportunities for the Shockers, who are looking for better results across the board from the fall campaign.

The Field – 12 Teams: Central Michigan, Drake, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Loyola-Chicago, New Haven (Individuals only), Oklahoma State (Individuals only), Sacred Heart, Texas State, UTRGV, Wichita State
 
The lineup features one new face from the fall, as true freshman Kayla Van De Ven arrived to WSU in early January and will make the trip to compete in her first collegiate tournament. The Shockers will also be bringing an individual for this tournament in freshman Lara Stifter.

Kate Tilma (Jr.) – Second year Shocker…Transferred from Kansas State…Played in all nine tournaments in first season as a Shocker…Lowest stroke average on the team at 74.2 which is second lowest in team history...Led team in birdies with 69...Finished as top Shocker in five tournaments, including four in the fall...Competed in all four fall tournaments in her first fall as a Shocker...Posted the Shocker's only top-5 individual finish of the fall at the Payne Stewart Memorial...One of three Shockers to post multiple top-20 finishes in the fall.
 
Amelie Paul (Fr.) – Competed in all four fall tournaments in first semester at WSU…Debuted with a semester-best t-30th finish at The Powercat Invitational…Won Grand Prix d'Aix Provence and Grand Prix de Valgarde in 2023... Ranked as high as 139th in France and 1953rd in the world...Finished as high as eighth in French Girls Championships
 
Brooklyn Benn (Jr.) – Third year at Wichita State…Finished t-20h in season-opening tournament on September 10…Competed in six events last season…Shined at AAC Championship setting career low 18- and 54-hole scores in the tournament...Recorded team's first eagle of the season and first of her career at Payne Stewart Memorial on Sept. 11...
 
Mackenzie Wilson (Jr.) – Third year Shocker…Has competed in all 20 tournaments in the previous two years at WSU…Second-lowest stroke average among Shockers last season at 75.6…212 54-hole score at Diamante Intercollegiate in October was the second-best 54-hole score in team history
 
Kayla Van de Ven (Fr.) – True freshman who arrived at WSU in January 2025…Making Shocker debut
 
Next Up
The Shockers make their first of three trips to Arizona in the spring season. The first to Rio Verde, Arizona, and Quail Run Golf Course to compete in Western Michigan's Rio Verde Invitational.
