Wichita State has out-rebounded all four of its opponents, ranks in the top 20 in offensive rebounding nationally and averages six more second-chance points than its opponents.

Coach Paul Mills, however, wants to see more physical play from the Shockers after Tuesday's 62-59 loss at Boise State. While they out-rebounded the Broncos, they allowed three offensive rebounds during a game-changing stretch in the first half. Boise State turned those rebounds into seven points while it flipped a one-point deficit into a 27-20 lead.

Wichita State (3-1) plays Milwaukee (2-3) at 6 p.m. tonight (Saturday) at Koch Arena (ESPN+).  Mills wants to use the game against the Panthers, the Horizon League favorite, to correct the mistakes from Tuesday.

"It's a really bad taste over our lack of physicality on Tuesday," he said. "Defensively, the level of physicality that needs to happen, especially on the defensive glass, just was not where we needed it to be. Our physicality has to get a lot better, specifically on the defensive glass."

Mills used video to point out the missed boxouts against Boise State. The mindset needed to commit to putting a body on an opponent was emphasized.

He also said the Shockers sometimes neglected rebounding to start their fast breaks. Wichita State enjoyed success scoring in transition in its first three games and wanted to take advantage against the Broncos.

"We've done a good job of running, but if you think run before rebound, you're not ever going to get a chance to run," Mills said. "We were thinking run more than rebound. That can't get out of whack."

The Panthers will test WSU's defense with several accurate outside shooters, as did Boise State. Milwaukee was within five points of No. 11 Texas Tech in a road game early in the second half on Nov. 14 before falling 80-63, a performance that grabbed Mills' attention.

"They have a number of shot-makers," Mills said. "It's not hard to see why they're predicted to win their conference. We're going to have to set the tone early in order to prevent some quality looks. With the quality of guards they have, if that match gets lit, it's going to be really hard to put out that fire."
