Shockers Drop Match to North Texas, 3-2

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State (14-8, 6-4) fell to North Texas (17-5, 7-3) 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Charles Koch Arena after coming back from down 0-2. WSU lost by scores of 23-25, 20-25, 25-14, 25-23 and 14-16. 
 
The Shockers recorded a .178 hitting percentage with 62 kills and 30 errors. The Mean Green hit .162, with 66 kills and 34 errors. 
 
Brooklyn Leggett recorded a double-double with 16 kills and and a career-high 16 digs. Sydney Dunning led the Shockers with 18 kills, while Jordan Heatherly finished with 49 assists. Grace Hett recorded a career high of 23 digs, which led the Shockers. 
 
The Shockers are back in action at Florida Atlantic at 5 p.m. CT on Friday. 
 
Set 1: 
  • Wichita State lost the first set to North Texas 25-23 
  • Sarah Musial served an ace to put WSU ahead 4-3 
  • After a 4-0 run, Wichita state held a 6-3 lead 
  • The set went back and forth until North Texas inched ahead at the end 
Set 2: 
  • WSU fell to North Texas in the second set 25-20 
  • The Shockers started off slow, down 5-0 to start the second set 
  • Brooklyn Leggett's kill cut the North Texas lead to six at 15-9 
  • Wichita State cut the lead to four after a 3-0 run, making the score 21-17 
  • WSU gained back some ground late in the set, but it wasn't quite enough 
Set 3: 
  • Wichita State dominated the third set with a 25-14 victory over North Texas 
  • The Shockers got off to a hot start, leading 8-3 after a 6-0 run 
  • Wichita State continued to roll with a 14-8 lead 
  • WSU went on another 6-0 run to extend its lead to 23-12 
Set 4: 
  • The Shockers won a tightly contested fourth set by a score of 25-23 
  • Wichita State went on a 3-0 run to take a 12-11 lead 
  • WSU finished the fourth set on a 4-1 run 
Set 5: 
  • Wichita State lost the fifth set 16-14 after leading 6-1.  
  • WSU held a 5-0 lead after a dominant start to the fifth set 
  • North Texas went on a 6-0 run to take a 7-6 lead 
  • The set went back and forth until North Texas pulled ahead at the end
