Wichita State track and field is hosting the Coach Wilson Invitational from Thursday, Jan. 30 to Saturday, Feb. 1 in the Heskett Center. The meet honors longtime track and field coaches, Herm Wilson and Pat Wilson.

The Shocker multi-eventers travel to K-State to compete in the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, and a distance group will head to Topeka for the Washburn Open.

Coach Wilson Invitational events begin at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, 11:00 a.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Entry is free on Thursday and Friday and $5 at the door on Saturday.

Last time out in Lincoln, Neb.,
Yared Kidane broke the 600-meter school record and Prairie Wolf Invitational meet record before winning the 800 meters at the Mark Colligan Memorial with an American Athletic Conference leading time of 1:50.26.

Joakim Genereux also picked up individual event wins at the Mark Colligan Memorial in the mile, 60-meter hurdles and 400 meters.

Shockers to watch at the Coach Wilson Invitational include both 60-meter hurdles champions from the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular,
Tyler Carroll and
Kate Campos.
Loudan Hicks will compete in the weight throw again after moving up to No. 4 in the AAC last weekend. The Shocker pole vault squad will be competing in full force, including
Arantxa Cortez, who currently ranks fifth in the conference.

The No. 2-ranked pentathlon squad in the USTFCCCA week one national rankings heads to the DeLoss Dodds Invitational.
Destiny Masters looks to put up a big pentathlon score to try to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships for a second-straight season. She did not complete her season opener pentathlon in December, dropping out due to illness, so this will be her first mark of the year.

Natalie Hill will also compete in the pentathlon at K-State. All-conference multi-eventer
Hudson Bailey, along with
Luke Czarnecki and
Holden Atwood, will compete in the DeLoss Dodds heptathlon.

Kirk Hunter is taking his group to the Washburn Open to race in the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters. Kidane and
Adrian Diaz Lopez are among the Shockers set to race in Topeka.

SCHOOL RECORD WATCH
Already the Wichita State record holder in the pentathlon, Masters has the opportunity to improve her mark at No. 1. Her current record is 4,338 points. Masters is also tied for No. 1 all-time in the high jump with a clearance of 1.86m/6'1.25".

Diaz Lopez is the current Wichita State record holder in the 3,000 meters with a time of 7:54.36 and will race in his first 3K since the 2023 AAC Indoor Championships.

ROAD TO VIRGINIA BEACH
The 2025 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place March 14-15 in Virginia Beach, Va. Selections will be from qualifying performances from Friday, Nov. 29 to Sunday, Mar. 2. The top 16 men and women in each event qualify to compete at the championship meet. The final list of meet participants will be available on Tuesday, Mar. 4. On Wednesday, March 12, the final championships start lists will be posted on the NCAA website.
