WICHITA – A small group of Shockers opened their indoor season at the Friend First Chance Qualifier on Saturday, Jan. 11 in the Heskett Center, picking up three event wins.

Freshmen Kyle Scott and
Darius Graham claimed event titles in their collegiate debuts with Scott winning the pole vault with a clearance of 3.65m/11'11.75" and Graham winning the high jump with his opening bar clearance of 1.95m/6'4.75".

Senior
Destiny Masters claimed her first victory of the season, running 8.85 to win the 60-meter hurdles final after winning the prelims with a time of 8.72. Masters also took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.63m/18'5.75".

The Shockers swept the top three places in the women's hurdles and women's pole vault with
Sadie Millard and
Cali Kerschen going 2-3 in the hurdles with times of 8.86 and 9.06 and
Shellamae Farmer and
Abby Rexford taking second and third in the pole vault, both clearing 3.35m/10'11.75".

In the women's high jump,
Anna Bundy cleared a collegiate best of 1.60m/5'3" to take second.

The majority of the Wichita State team will open its season Friday, Jan. 17 at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular in Manhattan, Kan.
