MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Wichita State women's golf team took eighth in their season-opening tournament at Colbert Hills Golf Club.
 
The Shockers finished tied for eighth with a score of 919, 55 strokes over-par, and with round scores of 297, 311, and 311. 
 
Host Kansas State ran away with the team crown, beating second place North Texas by 20 strokes. The Wildcats finished with a team score of 860, four strokes under par. Kansas State's Carla Bernat won the individual crown with ease, finishing seven strokes ahead of second place with a score of 208, eight strokes under par.

In the opening round, Kansas State transfer Kate Tilma performed well in her return to her former home course, shooting two under par and finishing the round in 8th place. Freshman Amelie Paul overcame an early three-over start to put together a strong collegiate debut, finishing just one stroke over par and in 15th place.
 
As a team, the Shockers found themselves in the tournament top three with North Texas and host Kansas State after round one, but a windy round two would blow the Shockers down the standings, leaving them sitting in fifth at 32 strokes over par after the second round.
 
In round three the next day, the tournament field continued to battle adverse wind conditions on the course, leading to scores higher scores.
 
The Shockers were unable to improve on their round two performance, falling into eighth place to wrap up their first tournament of the season.
 
Junior Brooklyn Benn put together a quietly solid effort, improving on her score each round, and finishing tied for 20th.
