WICHITA, Kan. – Head Women's Golf Coach
Tom McCurdy added Samantha Straight, a transfer from Troy University, to the 2024 signing class on Friday afternoon.
Â
Coach McCurdy is thrilled to add the transfer to the roster for next season.
Â
"Sam is a really talented player," said McCurdy. "She hits the ball really well and has a very fundamentally sound game."Â
Â
Straight, a native of Carrollton, Texas, will join the Shockers after two years of competing for the Troy Trojans.
Â
As a sophomore in 2023-24, Straight competed in all five fall tournaments, totaling 15 rounds and had a stroke average of 77.67. Her best finish of the year was a tie for 26th in the Hoover Invitational on September 19th. Her low round for the year came at the Jupiter Women's Invitational, where she notched a score of 72 in the opening round of the tournament.
Â
In her freshman season at Troy, Straight played in five tournaments, finishing 15 rounds, and had a 76.33 stroke average. She saved her best performance of her career for last with a 70-round score in the final round of the Tchefuncta Invitational.
Â
"Sam is going to bring good college experience with her," said McCurdy. "With as young as we will be next year, it's going to be nice to have a junior come in and play for us."
Â
In high school, Straight was ranked as a top 175 women's golfer in the class of 2022 and she finished 13th at the Texas 6A State Championship. As a junior, Straight reached the finals of the Drive, Chip, and Putt Finals held at Augusta National in April of 2021, where she finished third overall and first in putting in her division.
Â
She is the daughter of Robert and Jami Straight. Straight comes from an athletic family, as her father played college baseball at Oklahoma and her cousin, Julia, played soccer at Oklahoma State.
