Masters, Palen, Parrish Claim Final AAC Weekly Honors

WICHITA – Wichita State track and field earned three of the American Athletic Conference's four final weekly awards of the outdoor season, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
 
Jason Parrish claimed his first AAC weekly award, being named Men's Track Athlete of the Week, after his personal-best performance in the 400-meter hurdles at the Shocker Open. The freshman from Olathe, Kan. moved up to fifth in the AAC with his time of 51.61 and put himself in position to qualify for the NCAA First Rounds, ranking 29th in the west region.
 
Destiny Masters gave the Shockers a sweep of the track awards as the Women's Track Athlete of the Week, running 13.96 to take second in the 100-meter hurdles at the Shocker Open. The junior from El Dorado, Kan. currently ranks ninth in the conference in the event heading into the championship meet.
 
Brady Palen was named Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this outdoor season after clearing 2.17m/7'1.5" before passing to attempt the Olympic Trials auto-qualify bar (2.23m) at the Shocker Open. The senior from Beloit, Kan. maintains the conference lead and will enter the AAC Outdoor Championships as the No. 1 seed. He ranks second in the NCAA west region and 10th overall in the NCAA.
 
Wichita State now prepares for the AAC Outdoor Championships in San Antonio, Texas from May 10-12 at the Park West Athletic Complex.
