WICHITA – Wichita State ended its regular season at home with the Shocker Open on Friday at Cessna Stadium.
Senior
Joseph Holthusen won his final 110-meter hurdles race in Cessna Stadium with a time of 14.04.
Josh Parrish and
Tyler Carroll finished second and third in 14.09 and 14.11, respectively. Parrish moved up to No. 8 all-time in Shocker history, and Carroll moved up to ninth.
In the 400-meter hurdles, two Shockers ran Shocker all-time top-10 times with
Jason Parrish running a personal-best 51.61 to finish second and
Bryan Haney clocking a 51.91 to take third. Former Shocker
Yuben Goncalves, who wrapped up his Wichita State career this indoor season, won the race in 51.16 on his senior night.
In the high jump,
Brady Palen recorded his 22
nd career 7-foot plus clearance, jumping 2.17m/7'1.5" before passing to 2.23m to attempt the Olympic Trials auto qualifying height. He placed second behind the No. 2 high jumper in the NCAA, Nebraska's Tyus Wilson, who cleared 2.26m/7'5".
Marissa Jensen took second in the women's competition with a clearance of 1.73m/5'8".
Josh Parrish got his third long jump win of the season with a jump of 7.37m/24'2.25", and
Chidera Okoro jumped 5.86m/19'2.75" to place second in the women's competition. Okoro also took second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.94m/39'2.25"
Elontae Hackney-Cooper and
Sydney Brown went 2-3 in the 400 meters with times of 57.16 and 57.52, respectively.
Two Shockers ran sub-14 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles with
Destiny Masters finishing second in 13.96 and
Kate Campos running 13.98 to take third.
Samantha Marx won the javelin with a throw of 41.85m/137'4",
Emma Bezdek took second in the javelin with a personal-best toss of 37.92m/ 124'5", and
Kylie Zimmer placed third in the shot put with a throw of 14.06m/46'1.5".
Jordan Rider and
Blake McCormick went 2-3 in the javelin with throws of 56.05m/183'11" and 55.02m/180'6", respectively.
The Shockers head to San Antonio, Texas for the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships May 10-12.
