Wichita State's
Brady Palen cleared 2.20m/7'2.5" in the high jump at the Arkansas Spring Invitational to move up to No. 4 in the NCAA, No. 1 in the American Athletic Conference and No. 3 in Shocker history Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, Ark.
The senior from Beloit, Kan. jumped an outdoor personal best that put him position to qualify to the NCAA West Preliminaries, winning the meet with the first-attempt clearance. Also in Fayetteville,
Mattelyn Swartz and
Marissa Jensen cleared 1.66m/5'5.25" to place third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump.
In Wichita, the remainder of the team wrapped up the Friends Spring Open with six event victories.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of
Courtney Wilborn,
Kate Campos,
Sydney Brown and
Chidera Okoro won the relay with a time of 47.51. Brown went on to claim the 200-meter victory with a wind-aided time of 24.12 (+6.8).
Campos won the 100-meter hurdles final with an all conditions personal-best time of 13.87 (+4.6), and
Kenisa Meyer finished third in 14.51 (+4.6).
Joseph Holthusen and
Josh Parrish ran 14.10 and 14.24 in the 110-meter hurdles final to finish second and third behind unattached
Jaleel Montgomery.
Jenna Muma led the Shockers to a 1500 meters sweep, winning the race in 4:56.43 with
Lea Jerkovic finishing second in 5:00.32 and
Miranda Dick taking third with a time of 5:02.05.
Adam Rzentkowski finished second in the men's race with a time of 4:04.21.
Jason Parrish,
Brock Merz and
Bryan Haney swept the 400-meter hurdles, running 53.08, 53.41 and 54.85, respectively, and finishing into a strong headwind.
Audrey Parson and
Anna Heacock finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:05.42 and 1:05.88.
Kylie Zimmer placed second in the shot put with a toss of 13.43m/44'0.75".
The Shockers return home Friday, April 12 for the KT Woodman Classic.
