Shockers to Host 76th Annual KT Woodman Classic, Compete in California

WICHITA – Wichita State track and field welcomes athletes from 39 collegiate teams to Cessna Stadium for the 76th annual KT Woodman Classic on Friday and Saturday. Including the high school Shocker Pre-State Challenge meet that is set for Thursday and Friday, around 2,500 track and field athletes will come through Cessna stadium over the course of three days.
 
In California, a small Shocker distance squad will race at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Leopard Distance Carnival. Miranda Dick, Farrah Miller, Lucy Ndungu, Zander Cobb and Adam Rzentkowski will compete on Thursday and Friday.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Brady Palen was named the American Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the second-consecutive week after clearing an outdoor personal best of 2.20m/7'2.5" to win the high jump at the Arkansas Spring Invitational. Destiny Masters recorded the fifth-best heptathlon score in the nation, winning the Wichita State Combined Events with 5,749 points. She now leads the conference in the event. Josh Parrish jumped the eighth-best mark in the nation, leaping 7.94m/26'0.75" to win the long jump at the Friends Spring Open.

ROAD TO EUGENE
The NCAA Division I Championships will take place June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field. This year for the west region, the road to Eugene goes through Fayetteville, Ark., where the top 48 individual athletes and the top 24 relays in the region will compete at the NCAA West Preliminaries (NCAA First Round) May 22-25 for a spot at the NCAA Championships. The top 12 in each event advance to the championship. Combined event athletes (heptathlon and decathlon) do not attend the First Rounds, but instead, the top 24 athletes overall advance directly to the NCAA Championship in Eugene.

USTFCCCA EVENT SQUAD RANKINGS
The heptathlon squad came in at No. 2 in the NCAA after the group's first heptathlon of the season. Destiny Masters, Tess Roman, Sadie Millard and Kenisa Meyer averaged 5,070 points to rank second behind Oklahoma State.
