Shockers Open Weekend with Win over Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Chloe Barber tossed a complete game and Bailey Urban homered in Wichita State's 7-1 win at Nebraska Friday night at Bowlin Stadium.

Wichita State (8-3) has now won four of the last five meetings with the Huskers.

Barber improved to 4-0 in the circle behind her third straight complete game. After allowing a run two batters into the game, the freshman silenced the Huskers over the final 6.0 innings. She struck out seven, scattering six hits and allowed just one walk.

Bailey Urban hit her second home run of the season in a 2-for-3 night with a pair of RBI. Sami Hood had two hits, including a triple, and scored twice. Lainee Brown singled twice to go with an RBI and two runs. Caroline Tallent was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Krystin Nelson drove in two runs with a single. Addison Barnard and Mila Seaton also singled on the night.

It only took two batters for Nebraska to break open the scoring. A leadoff hit by pitch, followed by an RBI double had the Huskers out to an early 1-0 lead.

After going hitless through the first three innings, Wichita State's offense finally broke through in the top of the fourth. A Hood triple followed by a Brown lined single to right, tied the game at 1-1. After back-to-back singles from Tallent and Seaton, Nelson delivered the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice.

Wichita State increased its lead in the fifth behind a 5-run frame on six hits. Urban started the scoring with an opposite field two-run home run to make it 4-1. Tallent upped it to 5-1 on an RBI double after back-to-back singles from Hood and Brown. RBI singles from Nelson and Barnard capped the inning.
