Shockers Set for Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. – Wichita State track and field gets ready for the 48th annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational, a two-day meet, starting Friday afternoon in the Bob Devaney Sports Complex.
 
The meet hosts 23 schools, including the No. 6 Baylor men and No. 21 women and the No. 8 Washington women. Wichita State will also see former American Athletic Conference rival Cincinnati for the first time and in-state rival Kansas.
 
Events will be streamed online through Playsight with live results available through Delta Timing.
 
BACK IN DEVANEY
Wichita State will compete at Nebraska for the second time this season, the last time being the Mark Colligan Memorial where Jaleel Montgomery ran 7.79, the third-fastest time in school history, to win the 60-meter hurdles. Freshman Kate Campos also ran a personal best in the hurdles, clocking the fifth-fastest time in program history, 8.45.
 
Brady Palen jumped a season-best 2.15m/7'0.5" to win the high jump.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Shockers' No. 4-ranked multi-event squads traveled to Kansas State to compete in the K-State Multis, where Destiny Masters broke her own pentathlon school record with 4,211 points. Masters also entered Wichita State's all-time top-10 list in the long jump with a personal-best jump of 5.98m/19'7.5"
 
Kenisa Meyer and Tess Roman also recorded personal bests in the pentathlon with 3,675 points and 3,582 points, respectively, as Meyer ran another 60-meter hurdles personal best of 8.59.
 
ROAD TO BOSTON
With the top-16 marks in each event qualifying to the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, Wichita State currently has one athlete within the qualifying range in two events.
 
Destiny Masters ranks No. 5 in the pentathlon and ties for No. 9 in the high jump.

SQUAD UP
The first USTFCCCA event squad rankings were released on Jan. 29 with Wichita State making top-25 appearances in six events.
 
Both the pentathlon and heptathlon squads rank fourth in the nation, while the women's high jumpers rank sixth, the men's triple jumpers rank eighth and both the men's and women's 60-meter hurdles squad rank 14th.
 
SHOCKERS IN THE AMERICAN
Wichita State hold the conference leads in three events with Masters leading the AAC in the high jump and pentathlon and Montgomery holding the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles.

The Shocker pole vaulters will compete at the Washburn Open on Saturday with the men jumping at 3:30 p.m. and the women jumping at 6 p.m.
