Masters, Palen Represent Shockers at NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas – Brady Palen and Destiny Masters are set to represent the Shockers Friday and Saturday in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

STARTING LINES
Brady Palen is the first Shocker since David Puvogel in 1982 to compete in the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, entering with the 14th-best clearance in the nation (2.19m/7'2.25" at Kansas Relays) and is set to jump 22nd in the order.
 
The junior from Beloit, Kan. earned First Team All-American recognition in March with his seventh-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Palen would be the first Shocker man since Temoer Terry in 1974 to earn All-American honors in the outdoor high jump and second ever in program history. With a top-16 placement, he would record the first indoor/outdoor All-American double in the high jump in Wichita State history.
 
Throughout the outdoor season, Palen cleared a 7-foot or higher bar in six of eight meets and won four of five regular-season high jump competitions.
 
Destiny Masters will compete in her first NCAA Championships, entering the meet with the 14th-highest mark (1.83m/6'0" at Kansas Relays) and will jump 23rd in the order.
 
The sophomore from El Dorado, Kan. is the first Shocker woman since 2019 to qualify for the NCAA Championships and first female high jumper since 2016.
 
Masters would be the first Shocker woman since Ashley Peterson in 2016 to earn All-American honors in the outdoor high jump and third ever in school history.
 
She cleared 1.79m/5'10.5" or higher in ever high jump competition this outdoor season.
 
2019 marks the last time Wichita State had both a male and female outdoor All-American.
 
All-American recognition is broken up into First Team (1st-8th), Second Team (9th-16th) and Honorable Mention (16th-24th).
