5/9/2023 2:29:00 PM

WICHITA – Misha Kvantaliani, Kristof Minarik and Orel Ovil were recognized for their performances in the classroom as well as on the court as they were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Men's Tennis Team Tuesday.

To make the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50+ cumulative GPA for at least one full calendar year at their current school with graduate students requiring at least a 3.5 as an undergrad, and make lineup appearances in 50 percent of the team's matches.

Kvantaliani, a graduate student from Tbilisi, Georgia, holds a 4.0 GPA as he pursues his Master of Sport Management after completing his undergraduate program at UTRGV with a 3.8 GPA. He held the Shockers' best doubles recording, going 13-12 in dual matches, winning 12 matches at No. 2 doubles and one at No. 1. Kvantaliani play all of his singles matches at courts one and two, collecting eight wins in dual matches.

Minarik, a sophomore from Boldog, Slovakia, has recorded a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.0, majoring in Management, and was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Month in October following his run to the ITA Central Region Singles Championship, which earned him a bid to the ITA Fall National Championships. Minarik battled through injuries during the spring season but came away with 11 doubles wins, 10 of them at No. 1.

Senior Orel Ovil from Petah Tikva, Israel finished up his career with a 3.87 GPA as he will graduate as a double major in Management and Marketing. Ovil won 10 doubles matches during his senior campaign, nine of them being at No. 2.

The trio of Shockers each logged hours of volunteer service throughout the school year, assisting with tennis clinics and the Wichita State Baseball Auction.
