NORMAN, Okla. — Wichita State defeated Oral Roberts, 4-0, before falling just short in an upset bid against No. 10 Oklahoma, 4-2, on Friday at Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Shockers (3-6) dispatched Oral Roberts (3-5) in less than two hours, then dropped a three-hour battle to Oklahoma (5-1) in the second match of the doubleheader.

Against the Golden Eagles in doubles, Wichita State turned firm court control into a pair of 6-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Rodrigo Cruz and
Ilias Worthington struck first at No. 3, followed by
Luke Bracks and
Amir Milushev clinching the doubles point at No. 2.

In singles play, the Shockers won four of six first sets.Â

Cruz earned his second victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 to give Wichita State a 2-0 lead.

Milushev's opponent retired in the second game of the second set, awarding the Shockers the point by opponent retirement and extending the lead to 3-0.

Pablo Roche Alcaya sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2, giving Wichita State the 4-0 victory in the opening match.

Against the Sooners, Wichita State again came out strong in doubles, though Oklahoma struck first with a 6-2 win over Bracks and Milushev at No. 2.

The Shockers responded by claiming the doubles point, earning 6-3 victories at both No. 1 and No. 3.

Oklahoma rebounded in singles, taking four of six first sets. The Sooners evened the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Milushev at No. 4, then took a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Worthington at No. 1.

Oklahoma moved within one point of victory with a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win over Cruz at No. 6.

Alcaya kept Wichita State alive, posting a 7-6 (5), 6-1 victory over Oklahoma's No. 107 Johan Rodriguez to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Sooners closed out the match at No. 5, rallying past Bracks, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, to secure the 4-2 win.
