SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Yuben Goncalves qualified to Friday's 400-meter hurdles quarterfinal with a time of 51.13 Wednesday at the NCAA West Preliminaries at Hornet Stadium.

Running in the last of six heats, the junior from Alcena-Alverca, Portugal finished fourth in his heat and 19^th overall, clocking a time just .02 seconds shy of his personal best.
 
Toby Penner and Bryan Haney also ran in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles, with Penner wrapping up his career with a 31^st-place finish in 52.30 and Haney concluding his freshman season with a 39^th-place finish in 53.13.
 
NCAA West Preliminaries action continues for the Shockers Thursday with Samantha Marx throwing javelin and Zarrey Sams competing in the long jump.
