Shockers to Host KT Woodman Classic, Multis on the Road

WICHITA, Kan./TURLOCK, Calif. – Wichita State track and field is set to host the 75th annual KT Woodman Classic Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium, while three multi-event athletes compete at the Stan State Multi at Warrior Stadium in Turlock, Calif.
 
KT Woodman college events begin Friday at 6 p.m. and continue Saturday at 11 a.m.
 
The Shocker Pre-State Challenge, which is the high school portion of the meet, begins Thursday at 5 p.m. and continues Friday at 9 a.m.
 
Tickets are available for purchase at the gate.

Stan State Multi
After earning all-conference recognition in the indoor heptathlon, Nate Vann is set to make his outdoor multi-event debut in the decathlon with teammate Hudson Bailey, who placed fourth in the heptathlon at the indoor conference meet.
 
Destiny Masters is looking to complete her first heptathlon of the outdoor season after pulling out of the Shocker Spring Invitational competition after the first event.
 
Vann and Bailey enter as the three and five seeds, while Masters is the No. 1 seed entering the competition.
 
KT Woodman Classic
Wichita State is playing host to 40 teams, including Missouri, Oklahoma and American Athletic Conference distance powerhouse Tulsa.
 
WSU No. 1 seeds:
Farrah Miller – 800m – 2:08.80
Faith Turner, Zarrey Sams, Sydney Johnson, Savannah Simmons – 4x100-meter relay – 45.25
Marissa Jensen – high jump – 1.76m
Zarrey Sams – long jump – 6.04m
Toby Penner – 400-meter hurdles – 52.23
Brady Palen – high jump – 2.22m
 
Missouri holds the best entry mark in five of the eight throwing events and the top four spots in the women's discus. The Tigers are bringing six top-25 ranked throwers, including their No. ranked javelin thrower, who will only throw discus this weekend.
 
Palen is coming off a sixth-place finish at the Texas Relays where he cleared a season-best 2.17m/7'1.5" and will have some good competition at home. Four high jumpers enter the competition with seed marks over 7 ft, including teammate Weston Lewis, who won the Friends Spring Open high jump competition a week ago.
 
Shockers in the National Ranks
The Shocker men currently rank 80th in the nation as team, led by Brady Palen, who ranks eighth in the high jump. The women sit in 146th in the rankings with Tess Roman holding the 24th spot in the heptathlon.
