LAWRENCE, Kan. – On the final day of the Kansas Relays,
Brady Palen improved his NCAA rank with the sixth-highest high jump clearance in the nation this season to win the event.
Â
After the weather conditions forced the high jump to be contested indoors, Palen cleared an outdoor personal-best 2.19m/7'2.25", defeating Kansas's No. 17-ranked high jumper, Devin Loudermilk.
Â
"
Brady Palen had a terrific high jump today and won against a strong field," head coach
Steve Rainbolt said. "I was really happy for him for such a terrific competitive effort."
Â
Palen's win highlighted a day of ups and downs due to wind and lightning delays.
Â
"This was a good weekend for Shocker track and field," Rainbolt said. "A lot of good things happened."
Â
Destiny Masters picked up a long jump win with a leap of 5.66m/18'7" after placing third in the 100-meter hurdles with her second sub-14 second race of the meet (18.83).
Â
"I felt bad that the weather disrupted our final day at the Kansas Relays, but thankfully we were able to get a lot accomplished before the weather shut down the competition," Rainbolt said. "Both our men and women are progressing beautifully toward a strong championship effort in four weeks."
