WICHITA, Kan. – Six runs in the top of the first was more than enough run support for the 12th-ranked Stanford Cardinal Thursday, as No. 23 Wichita State fell, 11-0, at Wilkins Stadium.

Wichita State (16-4) saw its 11-game win streak come to an end, tied for the fourth longest in school history.

Stanford entered with one of the nation's top pitching staffs and proved it. Alana Vawter was 8-1 with a 1.07 ERA before the game and lowered her ERA to 0.95. She struck out seven Shockers increasing her season total to 64 with only two walks in 66.0 innings.

Wichita State managed to record eight hits, but could never produce any runs. They left eight runners on base. Sami Hood and Lauren Mills had multi-hit games with two singles apiece. Sydney McKinney, Addison Barnard, Zoe Jones and Taylor Sedlacek all finished with a hit.

Alison Cooper wasn't able to make it out of the first inning in the start. She allowed six runs, only two earned, on four hits and two walks. Lauren Howell finished the game and was efficient until the seventh. She allowed just one run through the first 5.0 innings of relief.

Stanford took advantage of three bloop singles and an error to score six runs in the top of the first. Against a Top 10 team mental lapses are hard to come back from, especially when facing an elite pitching staff.

The Cardinal added one in the third on a bases loaded walk.

Wichita State had opportunities in the second and fourth innings, getting a pair of baserunners aboard, but failed to produce any runs out of those chances.

A four-run top of the seventh blew it wide open. An RBI double followed by an RBI groundout paved the way for a monster two-run home to make it 11-0.
