OPELIKA, Ala. - The Wichita State men's golf team finished in 16th place at the Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner.Â
The Shockers wrapped up play with a team score of 19-over--883, posting rounds of 288, 295, and 300.
Wichita State got off to a strong start on Sunday, riding an opening round 68 from
Blake Lorenz to an even-par 288 that was good for a tie for ninth place. Lorenz was tied for fourth at four-under following 18 holes, ultimately settling for a tie for 35th after shooting 74 on Monday and 77 on Tuesday. He fired 16 birdies for the competition, tied for best in the field.
A second day 295 kept the Shockers in a tie for ninth heading into the final round, but WSU ended the competition with a 300 that slipped the Shockers back to the 16th place finish.
Host Auburn ran away with the team title, shooting a 41-under 823 to best second place Troy by 31 strokes. Carson Bacha of Auburn was the individual medalist at -11.
JT Pittman (73-77-70--220, +4) put together a solid final round that had just two bogeys, sprinting 21 spots up the leaderboard to end in a tie for 38th. He was at his best on par threes, posting an average score of 2.92, third-best among all individuals.
Matthew Sandoz (74-73-77--224, +8) had two eagles in the opening round, including his first collegiate ace on the par three third. The freshman checked in at a tie for 61st, notching 39 pars for the third-highest total in the competition.

Michael Winslow (73-73-77--223, +7) tied for 56th, and
Dawson Lewis (79-75-76--230, +10) finished in a tie for 79th.
The Shockers return to action at the Missouri State Intercollegiate on March 20-21 at the Millwood Golf and Racquet Club in Ozark, Missouri.
