Shockers Prepare for Texas Relays, Friends Spring Open

3/29/2023 1:05:00 PM

AUSTIN, Texas/WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field team is sending a partial squad to the Texas Relays for the first time since 2019, while the remainder of the team is set to compete at the Friends Spring Open.

The Shockers will compete Thursday-Saturday at the Texas Relays and Friday and Saturday at the Friends Spring Open.

Brady Palen is the sole Shocker field event athlete to be accepted into the limited field of the Texas Relays, one of 10 athletes to make it into the A section of the event. Six of Palen's nine competitors are familiar faces from the NCAA Indoor Championships, so the bar will be high.

Clayton Duchatschek is set to make his 3,000-meter steeplechase debut after winning the event last year at the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.

Coming off a personal best in the event, Joseph Holthusen will race in the 110-meter hurdles for the second-straight week.

Making his outdoor debut, Yuben Goncalves will race in the 400-meter hurdles after placing seventh in the event at the conference meet last season.

The Shockers are entered in the men's and women's 4x100-meter, 4x400-meter, spring medley, distance medley and 4x200-meter relays.
Creighton Camp (hammer), Samantha Marx (hammer), Marissa Jensen (high jump) and Matty Everett (discus) all collected event wins at the Shocker Spring Invitational and look to carry that momentum into the Friends Spring Open.
