Lorenz Leads WSU With Top-15 Outing at Pawleys Island

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - Blake Lorenz continued his recent run of strong performances with a top-15 finish as the Wichita State men's golf team tied for 11th at the Golfweek/Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate at True Blue Golf Club.

Troy ran away with the team title at 24-under par, 22 strokes better than second place Delaware. Jared Nelson of UConn (68-69-70--207, -9) held off Troy's Jake Springer by a single stroke for individual medalist honors.

The Shockers (294-290-293--877, +13) put together three consistent days to end in the midst of a tightly packed middle of the field. 10 strokes separated seventh place from 15th.

Lorenz (73-71-70--214, -2) finished the competition in a tie for 13th on the strength of Wichita State's best individual round of the tournament on Wednesday, firing a two-under 70 that featured five birdies. His 13 total birdies were tied for fourth most among all participants, and he carded just a single double-bogey over 54 holes. The junior used his length off the tee to shine on par-5s, with a 4.73 average that was tied for tenth-best in the field.

Lucas Scheufler (73-71-75--219, +3) recorded one of just 12 eagles in the entire competition, signing for a three on the par-5 9th during play on Tuesday. His final round was highlighted by a stretch of three consecutive birdies from 13-15 to tie for 32nd.

J.T. Pittman (72-79-71--222, +6) had a strong tournament spoiled by a second round 79, sandwiched between a pair of excellent days. He had just two bogeys combined on Monday and Wednesday, roaring 29 places up the leaderboard in the final round to tie for 42nd. Pittman's 39 pars were 12th most in the tournament.

Michael Winslow (76-75-77--228, +12) tied for 75th and Aston Castillo (81-73-78--232, +16) finished 91st to round out the lineup for the Shockers.

Wichita State has a two-week break before returning to competition at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa. Play is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 15.
