WICHITA – Creighton Camp and
Samantha Marx earned throwing event wins on day one of the Shocker Spring Invitational, while
Tess Roman leads the heptathlon competition after four events.

Camp bested his previous personal record by over 10 feet to win his 2023 hammer throw debut with a toss of 53.22m/174'7", which Marx followed up with a javelin win, throwing 42.08m/138'1". Freshman
Emma Bezdek made her Shocker javelin debut with a second-place finish and a throw of 37.35m/122'6".

On day one of the heptathlon, Freshman
Tess Roman recorded the top mark in the high jump with a 1.62m/5'3.75" clearance and threw the second-farthest shot put (10.67m/35'0.25") to lead the heptathlon heading into day two.
Kenisa Meyer sits in second with the best shot put mark (10.72m/35'2) and finishing top three in all four events.
Destiny Masters bowed out of the competition after running a personal-best 14.31 in the 60-meter hurdles, and after a disappointing no-height for
Sadie Millard in the high jump, she wrapped up day one with the fastest 200-meter time of the day, crossing the line in 25.41.

Freshman
Blake McCormick threw the best collegiate javelin throw of the competition, placing third behind two unattached throwers with a mark of 55.99m/183'8".

Miranda Dick finished second in the 3,000 meters with a 41-seecond PR of 10:06.11.

In the nightcap,
Clayton Duchatschek ran the second-fastest time in Shocker history in the outdoor 3,000 meters, finishing second in 8:18.19 behind Shocker alumnus and volunteer assistant
Adam Moore.

The Shockers recorded a total of 26 collegiate outdoor personal bests and nine top-three finishes.

Day two of the Shocker Spring Invitational begins Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cessna Stadium.
