Holthusen Breaks Eight-Second Barrier, Shockers Close in on Program Records

VERMILLION, S.D./LINCOLN, Neb. – Joesph Holthusen tied the DakotaDome 60-meter hurdles facility record at the USD Alumni Meet, and Adrian Diaz-Lopez and Clayton Duchatschek were just shy of two school records at the Husker Invitational as the Shockers wrap up a multiple-meet weekend.
 
In Vermillion, S.D., Holthusen won the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 7.90 to tie the facility record and went on to place second in the final with a time of 8.15. This was Holthusen's first sub-eight second race since 2021 when he was an indoor All-American. Destiny Masters won the event for the women with a time of 8.56 after winning the prelim in 8.55.
 
Sydney Johnson earned her first collegiate win with a 57.35 in the 400 meters, and Farrah Miller won the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.64. The two ran with Chidera Okoro and Sadie Millard on the winning 4x400-meter relay that clocked a 3:54.79.
 
Brady Palen won his second high jump competition of the season with a 2.09m/6'10.25" clearance, and Caden Carlson moved up to No. 7 in the American Athletic Conference in the pole vault, clearing 4.71m/15'5'.5" to place eighth. Marissa Jensen grabbed her first high jump win of the season, jumping over 1.73m/5'8" with Masters finishing in third with the same height.
 
Ridge Estes threw over 16 meters in the shot put, placing third (16.00m/52'6"), and Zarrey Sams placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.90m/19'4.25".
 
At the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., Clayton Duchatschek moved up to No. 2 all-time in Shocker history in the 5,000 meters, placing second with a time of 14:08.35, just two seconds off All-American Mornay Annandale's record.
 
On the second day of competition, Adrian Diaz-Lopez won the mile and was 0.02 seconds away from breaking Adam Moore's school record from a year ago. Diaz-Lopez clocked a 4:01.10 and will shoot for the 3,000-meter school record next week in Seattle, Wash.
 
Lubna Aldulaimi placed second in the 3,000 meters with a season-best time of 10:13.14.
 
The Shockers return to the track Thursday, Feb. 9 for the Ichabod Mid-Week Challenge in Topeka, Kan.
