TAMPA, Fla. – South Florida claimed game one of the weekend series vs. Wichita State, 7-3, Friday night at USF Softball Stadium.
Wichita State (20-12, 3-1) struck out a season high 14 times vs. the nation's leader in strikeouts, Georgina Corrick.
Neleigh Herring,
Lauren Lucas,
Krystin Nelson and
Addison Barnard all went 1-for-3 at the plate, tallying the only hits on the night.
Erin McDonald (5-7) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs on six hits and four walks.
USF put its first two batters on base in the bottom of the first and immediately turned them into runs. A Madison Epperson two-run double put the Bulls in front, 2-0.
The Bulls added to their lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run home and sac fly to make it 5-0.
Wichita State broke into the scoring column in the top of the third on a Lucas RBI single, but USF answered right back with two more in the home half to make the score 7-1.
Herring's solo home run in the top of the fourth and a
Sydney McKinney run following a stolen base and USF error in the fifth made it 7-3.
