COLUMBIA, Mo. – Brock Polhill set a new career best with a second place individual finish, and Wichita State put together their best team outing of the 2022 season in a runner-up performance at the MU Tiger Invitational at The Club at Old Hawthorne on Tuesday.
Polhill (67-68-69—204) ended the tournament just one stroke back of Missouri's Jack Parker, who held on for the win with a par on 18 while Polhill carded a five. It was one of just three bogeys on the round for Polhill, who racked up 19 birdies over the course of 54 holes, the second-highest total in the 90-player field. The junior from Edmond, Okla., also eagled the par-five 10th on Monday's opening 18, leading to a 67 for the round that nearly matched his career-best 66 in Columbia a year ago. Polhill utilized his length off the tee to record the second best average score on Par 5s (4.33) ending the invitational at 8-under on Par-5s.
As a team, the Shockers piled up 65 birdies, trailing only Missouri's 73. The host Tigers (270-274-282—826, -38) rolled to the team title, finishing at 38-under to best the Shockers (288-272-292—852, -12) by 26 strokes. Wichita State held off Oral Roberts (286-279-292—857, -7) to secure second place, as only three teams finished the tournament below par.
The Shockers put together a dominant second round on Monday afternoon, with a 272 team score that paced the field.
Joe Bultman (74-65-81—220, +4) fired a career-best 65, tied with Lane Wallace of ORU for the low round of the entire tournament. Bultman opened the round with four birdies in five holes, and had just a single bogey. He finished the tournament tied with
Lucas Scheufler (73-73-74—220, +4) in 28th place. Each also notched one eagle.
