BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - Megan Lucas recorded her first top 15 finish of the season after the final round of the ORU Spring Invitational wrapped up Tuesday afternoon.
Lucas tied for 13th with an 11-over par, 227 (74-78-75). Her 10 birdies for the tournament were the second most with six of those coming in the first round. The Topeka native has found her groove in the last two tournaments as the Shockers prepare for next week's American Athletic Conference Championship. She tied for 17th in Wichita State's previous tournament, the Red Rocks Invitational.
As a team, Wichita State finished sixth at 62-over par, 926 (305-307-314). Arkansas State won the team title, nine strokes better than the second place finishers, Oral Roberts.
Mar Vidal just missed a top 20 finish, tying for 25th at 16-over par, 232 (77-78-77).
Kenni Henson came in one stroke behind Vidal at 17-over par, 233 (79-75-79). Henson turned in her best round on the second 18 with a 3-over par, 75.
Sarah Lawson entered the final day tied for 15th, but had a tough day on the course Tuesday. An 11-over par final round dropped her to a tie for 30th at 18-over par, 234. Lawson's first round score of 75 was her second lowest round of the season.
Rounding out the Shocker lineup was
Madison Slayton, who finished 52nd at 25-over par, 241.
Wichita State opens the American Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday, April 17 at the famed Pinehurst Resort and Country Club.
