Shockers Claim 12 Event Victories on Day Two of Spring Invite

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field team wrapped up day two of the Shocker Spring Invitational Saturday at Cessna Stadium with 12 event titles.
 
Semaj McGhee highlighted the field event victories with a personal-best 12.84m/42-1.5 in the triple jump to jump up to third all-time in WSU history. Margaux Thompson also found success in the jumps, claiming her second-straight win in the pole vault after clearing 3.47m/11-4.5.
 
The Shockers swept the 100-meter titles with Faith Turner sprinting to an 11.76 finish to rank fifth in the American Athletic Conference standings, and Jaleel Montgomery crossing the line in first place with a time of 10.98.
 
Sydney Johnson added to the sprint victories, winning the 200 meters in 25.36. In the 400-meter hurdles, Kylie Meier picked up her first win of the season with a time of 1:06.09.
 
The Shocker men swept the day-two throwing events with Dae'Trell Gordon winning the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.49m/54-1.25 and Matt Everett picking up the discus win with a toss of 51.58m/169-3.
 
Tanner Brown and Brianna Utecht translated their day one decathlon and heptathlon leads into day two victories, recording top marks in six of the eight events between the two of them. Utecht finished the event with 4,983 points, and Brown's 7,178 points ranks eighth all-time in Shocker history.
 
The Shockers will split up next weekend for the Hayward Premiere in Eugene, Oregon and the Friends Invitational in Wichita.
