SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Wichita State men's golf team makes the short trip east for their second-ever appearance at the Twins Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Missouri, hosted by Missouri State. The invitational is scheduled for 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday, with an 8:30 am shotgun start both days.
Â
The Shockers are coming off a ninth place finish at the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Alabama two weeks ago, their first true tournament action of the spring.
Brock Polhill paced Wichita State with a 12th place finish, including a second round 68 for WSU's best individual round of the competition.
Dawson Lewis (T-28th),
Max Wojciechowski (T-39th),
Joe Bultman (T-46th), and
Michael Winslow (T-78th) rounded out the lineup for the Shockers, who shot 297-282-298—877 over the course of two days at Grand National.
The Twin Oaks Intercollegiate will feature 16 teams: Bradley, Central Arkansas, Drake, Loyola Chicago, Missouri State, North Alabama, UNI, Omaha, ORU, South Dakota, SIUE, Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Valparaiso, Western Illinois, and Wichita State.
Wichita State finished second at last season's competition, checking in three strokes back of champion SIU-Edwardsville. Lewis and Polhill each finished +8 to tie for 36th, while
Jack Glenn ended in a tie for 68th. Top-five finishes from
Marcus Wochner (3rd) and
Zac Owens (T-5th) helped the Shockers secure runner-up position.
"Twin Oaks is a really good golf course, very similar to Wichita Country Club," Head Coach
Judd Easterling said. "Brock and Dawson know the course, and it's a tournament we have a chance to win. There's really no reason why we can't go down there and compete for a victory."
Wichita State deploys a lineup of Lewis, Polhill, Bultman,
Lucas Scheufler and Winslow. The Shockers tee off at 8:30 am on Monday.
The Shockers will then be off next weekend before next returning to action with the Redhawk Invitational in University Place, Washington, hosted by Seattle on April 4-5.

Head Coach Judd Easterling on….
Â
… Brock Polhill's strong start to the spring:
"He had a good finish and he left a lot out there. I think he's giving it everything he can. Brock's calm, cool, and collected, 24/7. He's a quiet leader, kinda keeps to himself, but he competes. He keeps a level head on his shoulders. It was a good golf course for him because he's kinda long, he could reach some of the par-5s and hit long irons off the tees to keep it in play. I really think Brock's going to have a good week in Missouri.
… The leadership of Dawson Lewis and Brock Polhill:
"Brock and Dawson are our two leaders and they couldn't be further apart. Dawson is very outgoing, very sociable, and Brock is very quiet and very reserved, but they both do everything the right way. We tell the young guys if you have questions and you don't feel comfortable coming to me or Josh, go to Brock and Dawson because they won't steer you wrong. They'll have your back and they'll tell you what we're all about, what we expect at Shocker golf."
Â
… Joe Bultman's return to tournament play:
"That was the guy that we recruited years ago. He competes. He never gives up, and he's got a really good short game. He struggled in the middle of that final round and then he made some birdies on the back nine. It was his first tournament and he went out there and played with some confidence and the last three rounds he made some great shots in some really tough conditions."
