RIO VERDE, Ariz. -Â Led by
Mar Vidal and
Louisa Brunt, the Wichita State women's golf team tied for eighth at the Rio Verde Invitational this weekend.
Wichita State tied for eighth at 60-over par, 924 over the three-day tournament. The tie for eighth finish ties a season best, which they did in the first tournament of the fall.
Vidal led the charge all three days, tying for 12th place at 7-over par and a total score of 223. It marks the second best finish of Vidal's career and is her first top 15 finish of the season. She opened the tournament with a first round 2-over par, 74. Following a 4-over par second round, Vidal saved her best for last. She posted a 1-over par 73 on the final day, just missing out on a top 10 finish.
Brunt recorded her fourth top 20 finish, tying for 15th at 9-over par, 225. Her scores went lower every round, beginning with a 5-over par, 77 down to a final round 1-over par, 73. Brunt and Vidal tied for the team lead with eight birdies over the weekend.
Following a tough first round 83,
Megan Lucas settled in as the tournament progressed. She finished with rounds of 78 and 75 to tie for 53rd at 20-over par, 236.
Madison Slayton rebounded from a second round 90 with a final day's score of 5-over par, 77. Slayton tied for 77th with a total score of 247.Â
Rounding out the lineup in Rio Verde was
Sarah Lawson who tied for 82nd, just one stroke behind Slayton (248).
Wichita State has almost a month off between competitions before they head back to Arizona for the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz., March 19-20.
