RH: VanVleet Makes First All-Star Game Appearance

RH VanVleet All Star

The RoundHouse | 2/21/2022 11:27:00 AM

Paul Suellentrop Byline

Fred VanVleet continued his remarkable basketball journey on Sunday at the NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland. The Toronto Raptors scooped him up as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NBA Draft and he spent his early days shuttling between the Raptors and their G League affiliate in 2016-17.

From there, his path continued as one of the NBA's brightest success stories. He helped the Raptors win an NBA title in 2019 and kept the franchise on a winning path as one of its leaders after the departure of guard Kyle Lowery.

In early February, coaches voted VanVleet a reserve for the All-Star game from the Eastern Conference. On Sunday, VanVleet became the second Shocker to play in the All-Star Game, joining Xavier McDaniel of Seattle in 1988. Former Shocker Warren (Armstrong) Jabali earned ABA All-Star Game MVP honors in 1973 while a member of the Denver Rockets.

VanVleet scored six points and played nine minutes on Sunday for Team LeBron, which defeated Team Durant 163-160. In Saturday's Three-Point Contest, VanVleet scored 16 points and did not advance out of the first round.
