WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State needed five more minutes to pull out a 72-70 exhibition overtime win over Missouri Southern State Tuesday night in Charles Koch Arena.
Missouri Southern State is ranked No. 19 in the preseason DII poll and returns an All-American in point guard Lacy Stokes.
Curtessia Dean poured in a game-high 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting to go with six rebounds in her Wichita State debut.
Jane Asinde did most of her damage in the first half, finishing with 15 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Trajata Colbert added a double-double in 14 points and 11 boards.
Wichita State finished the game shooting just 34 percent from the field, including 3-of-14 from beyond the arc. The Shockers held the advantage at the free throw line, going 19-of-29 compared to Missouri Southern attempting just six.
The Shockers led by as many as 15 in the first half, but saw it cut to 10 at the half, 30-20.
The third quarter was dominated by Missouri Southern. Wichita State was outscored 28-17 in the third frame, allowing the Lions to take a lead into the fourth quarter.
Missouri Southern led for only 5:40 of game time, but much of that came in the fourth quarter. MSSU led by two with just 1.7 seconds left in regulation before Colbert's game tying layup went through the next as time expired.
In overtime, Wichita State grabbed a four-point lead with 56 seconds to go, but a three-pointer on the other end immediately cut the gap to one. Both teams traded a pair of free throws to make it 71-70 and just 6.8 seconds on the clock.

DJ McCarty missed the second of two free throws, Missouri Southern had a game-winning three-point attempt, but it fell short as time expired.
