BERTHOUD, Colo. - The Wichita State men's golf team turned in their best round of the tournament on Wednesday, surging three spots up the leaderboard to finish alone in sixth place at the TPC Colorado at Heron Lakes.
The Shockers finished with a team score of 35-over--899, posting scores of 307, 299, and 293.
Wichita State ended the first round on Monday at the bottom of the leaderboard, but rolled past Air Force on Tuesday and used a strong final round to eclipse St. Thomas, host Denver and Northern Colorado. #16 ranked Colorado State held off BYU for the team title, shooting 12-under 852. Colorado State's Connor Jones also claimed the individual crown, signing for a nine-under 207.
Blake Lorenz (74-75-71--220, +4) snagged his best finish as a Shocker in a tie for 16th thanks to a final round one-under 71 that featured six birdies. Lorenz recorded the sixth-best average score on par-4s (3.93) and notched one of the Shockers two eagles.
Dawson Lewis (79-73-75--227, +11) and
Aston Castillo (77-75-75--227, +11) tied for 42nd after each carded a final round 75. Lewis led the Shockers with 10 birdies for the tournament, and Castillo dominated par-5s (4.58 average, second-best in the field).

Michael Winslow (77-79-73--229, +13) tied for 48th, compiling his best 18 holes on Wednesday with a final round 73.
Matthew Sandoz (82-76-74--232, +16) similarly improved as the week went along, ending in a tie for 53rd.
Competing as an individual,
Lucas Scheufler (79-78-71--228, +12) matched Lorenz's 71 on the final day, highlighted by a trio of birdies on 15, 16, and 17. Scheufler ended the tournament tied for 46th.
The Shockers return to action for the Wyoming World Match Play event on February 10-11 at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
