The Shocks, In Short:
The Shockers return two letter-winners,
Natsumi Kurahashi and
Jessie Zheng, from last year's 10-16 squad, along with 2021 redshirt,
Bianca Rademacher. In addition,
LingWei Kong rejoins the team after a one-year absence. That core is joined by transfers
Harriet Hamilton (Jacksonville State) and
Dohee Lee (Pacific) and freshman
Clara Whitaker.

Lee Makes the Leap:
Lee is the latest addition to the Shocker roster. The former Andover High School standout joined the team at semester after four years at Pacific. She was a 2019 All-WCC selection at No. 2 singles and twice made the conference's all-academic team.

Wichita Advantage:
Between Lee and Kapaun Mt. Carmel product Whitaker, the 2021-22 Shockers can lay claim to seven Class 5A state singles titles. Lee won the 2013-15 crowns but sat out her senior year to focus on USTA events. Whitaker won titles in all four years from 2017-20. In addition, former Shocker Abby Stevens won the 2011 singles title as a senior at Kapaun.

The Coach:
With a 205-107 career dual record,
Colin Foster is the winningest coach in Shocker women's tennis history. Now in his 13th season, Foster has guided the program to eight conference titles and nine NCAA tournament appearances.

The Series with SLU:
The Shockers are 6-1 all-time against SLU with four-straight wins. The last two have come under
Colin Foster. WSU opened the 2015-16 season with a 6-1 neutral court victory over the Billikens in Springfield, Mo. and closed out the 2018-19 regular season with a 7-0 home win.

About SLU:
SLU is in its third season under Justin Stuckey. The Billikens finished 7-7 last year and reached the quarterfinals of the A-10 tournament. The Billikens will stick around Sunday for a neutral court matchup against Oral Roberts.

The Series with Newman:
WSU is 2-0 all-time in duals against Newman. The Shockers downed the Jets, 6-1 on Feb. 2 of last year. Newman earned a point at No. 3 singles when
Ting-Ya Hsu retired due to injury, but the Shockers swept the other five singles matches in straight-sets while winning 60 of 68 games.

About Newman:
This is the first spring event for Newman, which went 9-7 last year against D-II opponents. The Jets are led by 18
th-year head coach Shella Augspurger, the mother of former Shocker volleyball standout and hall-of-famer Karen Augspurger.
