WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State track and field team competed a partial squad at their home opener Thursday at the Heskett Center.

In the jumps,
Chidera Okoro snagged the win in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 11.85m/38-10.5 and
Kenisa Meyer jumped a personal-best height of 1.52/4'11.75 to win the high jump.

"I'm really proud of Chidera," horizontal jumps coach
Heidi Benton said. "She's a hard worker and it's good to see her hard work paying off. She red-shirted last year and was new to the event, so I'm excited about how her season is going to go from here."

Over at the throws,
Amanda Kakoulias and
Anna Zimmer went one-two in the shot put, while
Kylie Zimmer recorded a third-place finish in the weight throw in her Shocker debut. In the men's shot put,
Dae'Trell Gordon took second with a toss of 15.22/49-11.25 and
Matt Everett finished third in his first meet in a Wichita State uniform.

All-American hurdler
Joseph Holthusen started the running events strong for the Shockers. He raced to a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.34. Meyer also found success in the hurdles, adding another top-three finish to her day with her second-place performance in the hurdles.

Four other event titles were claimed by Shockers that competed unattached for the season opener.
Weston Lewis earned the win in the high jump, clearing 2.03m/6-7.75 and freshman
Elontae Hackney-Cooper crossed the line in first in the 400 meters. Nebraska transfer Morgan Conner made his presence known quickly, winning the men's long jump with a leap of 6.86m/22-6.25. Ke'adre Thompson also picked up a win in the 200 meters with a time of 23.09.
