IRVING, Texas – Wichita State junior designated hitter Hunter Gibson was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, while freshman right-handed pitcher Jace Kaminska garnered Weekly Honor Roll honors for their performances on the field during the week of May 3-9, it was announced by the conference office Monday, May 10.
 
It's Gibson's first-career Player of the Week accolade and Kaminska's third weekly award honor.
 
A native of Oologah, Okla., Gibson hit a team-best .500 with eight hits in 13 at bats, including two homers and a double, going along with a team-high eight RBI, helping the Shockers win three of four games at UCF May 7-9 in Orlando, Fla.
 
He added a .938 slugging and .556 on-base percentage in four games as the designated hitter.
 
In WSU's 11-1, eight-inning, run-rule victory in game two of a doubleheader Friday, May 7, Gibson went a career-best 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, a double and six RBI. He smashed a three-run round-tripper in the first inning before belting a two-run shot in the eighth.
 
Gibson added a pair of 2-for-4 showings in Wichita State's game three and game four wins against the Knights Saturday, May 8, and Sunday, May 9.
 
Kaminska, who hails from Caney, Kan., continued his stellar 2021 on the mound, improving to 6-0 after earning the victory in the Shockers' 11-1, run-rule win Friday. He scattered five hits and allowed just one earned run with six strikeouts and only one walk in six innings of work and 93 total pitches.
 
Wichita State (25-18, 13-10 American) is scheduled to host South Florida at Eck Stadium May 14-16.
