WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's verbal commitment of the Brown era made it official on Wednesday night.
 
6-foot-10 Colby (Kan.) Community College center Matt McFarlane inked a letter of intent during the first day of the spring signing period.
 
The Philadelphia native averaged 11.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in two seasons with the Trojans. He earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a freshman while helping Colby to a trio of firsts: a conference title, a top-10 national ranking and an NJCAA tournament berth.
 
McFarlane will have three more years of eligibility at WSU, beginning next fall.
 
WSU head coach Isaac Brown said:
"Matt is big and athletic. He runs and jumps well, he can score facing up or with his back to the basket and he has great instincts as a shot-blocker. He's been well-coached by Rusty Elmore and the staff at Colby. I'm reminded a little of [former Shocker] Jaime Echenique coming out of junior college. Matt will give us instant experience in the frontcourt but there is still some untapped potential there, too. We're looking forward to helping him further develop his game over these next three years."
