3/9/2021 1:00:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. - Redshirt Sophomore Nicolas Acevedo went unbeaten in singles and doubles play to help the Shockers go 2-0 last week, including the Shockers first Top 25 win in 36 years when they beat No. 22 Memphis, en route to being named the American Athletic Conference Men's Player of the Week.

Acevedo, a native of Concepcion, Chile, beat No. 22 Memphis' Jan Pallares in straight sets on the fourth line, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the match. He also extended his singles winning streak to four, as he also picked up a win versus Omaha's Phillip Olsson, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Acevedo paired up with usual doubles partner Orel Ovil and downed Omaha's Phillip Olsson/Julian Kenzlers, 6-4.

This is the Shockers first American Men's Player of the Week since Marius Frosa won in the middle of February last season.

Acevedo and the Shockers return to action this weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., to face UTSA and No. 50 Tulsa.
