Brooke Smith has been named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 22-28.

Smith, a senior middle blocker from Goddard, Kan., averaged 1.56 blocks per set and 2.22 points per set in two matches last week. She tallied a team-high 14 block assists in the two matches against SMU.

In Friday's four-set win, Smith compiled a career-best nine block assists and also added seven kills. In the five-set loss on Saturday, Smith had five blocks along with six kills.

Smith and the Shockers are next in action on Fri., March 5 when they host Memphis at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
