Wichita State's
Kenny Pohto was named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday and teammate
Tyson Etienne earned a spot on the league's weekly honor roll.
Â
Pohto – a 6-foot-10 forward from Stockholm, Sweden – becomes WSU's first two-time freshman of the week winner since joining The American. Six others have won it previously, but none more than once.
Â
Pohto stepped up with 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in the Shockers' 102-66 win over Prairie View A&M last Wednesday.
Â
Etienne scored a team-high 20 points in that game to go with five assists and four steals in 25 turnover-free minutes.
Â
Wichita State (9-3) begins conference play Wednesday evening at East Carolina (9-3). The 6 p.m. CT tip airs on ESPN+.
Â
The Shockers open the home portion of their conference schedule this Saturday against Memphis (11 a.m. CT, CBS).
