Pohto Wins First AAC Freshman of the Week Honor

11/29/2021 1:00:00 PM

Wichita State's Kenny Pohto was named American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for Nov. 22-28 and Tyson Etienne earned a second-consecutive nod to the league's weekly honor roll.

The 6-foot-11 freshman forward out of Stockholm, Sweden contributed 10 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes to help the Shockers secure a road victory at Mizzou on Friday.

It was the second straight double-figure scoring game for Pohto, who is averaging 7.2 points for the year.

Etienne -- a 6-foot-2 sophomore guard out of Englewood, N.J. -- scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the second half on Friday. He sank three triples to go with five rebounds and a pair of steals.

It's the 11th weekly conference honor of Etienne's Shocker career. He was a three-time player of the week and five-time honor roll selection last season.

Etienne is averaging a team-high 18.6 points-per-game this year, including 24.3 points and 4.7 threes over the last three contests against Arizona, UNLV and Missouri.

Wichita State (5-1) travels to Oklahoma State (6-1) on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. CT tip at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game will air on ESPN+.
