INTERIM HEAD COACH ISAAC BROWN on …Â
Â
… what he is looking for in terms of preparation this week:
"I thought about that all night long. What I want to try to do is just keep these guys as busy as possible. We're going to practice today. We're going to practice tomorrow. Wednesday, I may just do a lot of scrimmaging and make it seem like it's a game. I think we've got to make practice like a game since so  many games are being postponed. So it'll be a practice today, maybe a practice tomorrow. Wednesday may be like a game, we may do more scrimmaging in practice."
Â
… if there would be a replacement game on Wednesday:
"No, they were trying to find us a game, but we hadn't heard back from anybody in the conference. So I don't think it's possible for us to play a game on Wednesday now because we haven't heard anything and we're about to start practice here in an hour. So I'm not sure. Last night there was talk that we could possibly play someone, but I hadn't heard anything today. So I don't think that would be possible."
Â
… improvements that could be made to the offense:
"Number one, we've just got to try to make some wide-open shots. In the first half, we were 0-for-12 from three. I know some of those shots were wide open. We were 3-for-23 in the first half. I think Memphis does a good job of taking us out of our sets. We started the game, we ran one of our sets that we run a ball screen with the point guard and the two guard, we roll
Morris Udeze to the rim. We got an and-one. And after that, every play that we tried to run, they would just run and jump us every time. So they took us out of all of our sets and they tried to make us play breakdown basketball and we didn't do a good job of attacking. I think we've just got to do a better job of when they come trap, we've got to make them pay either what a three or whatever opportunity is best. We've just got to step up and make some wide-open shots. I think defensively, the first half was really good. We guarded well, we turned them over a lot. In the second half, we didn't do a good job in our ball screen coverage and we've been working on that every day in practice. So I think we'll be prepared the second time we play them when they run that ball screen action."
Â
… if he has watched any film on UCF yet:
"No, not yet. The coach that has the scouting report, he's been watching it, but I haven't yet. I actually was watching Cincinnati and I kind of heard that there was a chance that we could play Tulane or Houston and I started watching games on them. Hadn't heard anything back, so I guess we'll start UCF this week."
Â
… what he thinks UCF does well:
"I haven't watched enough film on them yet. Their game was on Saturday. I've been watching a lot of film on, at first I was watching it on South Florida and then I was watching it on Cincinnati. I was going back watching games on Memphis. So I don't have a great feel for them yet. The coach who's got the scout, he's been watching them and we weren't preparing to play them. On Wednesday, we were preparing to play Cincinnati. So I don't have a great feel. I get more comfortable with them watching them today. I know they got a good basketball team. They went on the road, they beat Auburn, they went on the road and they beat Florida State. So obviously they've got a lot of talent. They've got a two guard, a transfer from Texas A&M that played for them last year. He's really scoring the basketball, but again, I don't have a great feel for them, but we'll start watching more film on them tonight."
Â
… on what the vibe has been like since the loss to Memphis:
"We all felt bad after that game. I felt bad all night, all day going into practice. We had film. That's when we keep it 100 and we tell the truth and we all called ourselves out on film and we got better. The next two days in practice were competitive. We competed. We did a bunch of rebounding drills. We did a bunch of transition drills. We did a bunch of drills where the losers would run. So I think the guys, they competed, they were down about the loss. I was down about the loss and that's a good sign of a team. They stayed together and those guys competed for two days and they were prepared to play a game on Sunday and that game got postponed and we were hoping we could play on Wednesday and that game was postponed. We'll just have a good week of practice getting ready to prepare for Central Florida."
Â
… what Memphis did to shut down Tyson Etienne:
"I think Memphis did a great job of guarding him. They had a 6-6 kid on him that was a big physical guy and he never left Tyson. It was almost like a box and one at times. I think they're length bothered us. I think he had some looks at times, he didn't knock them down, but I think they overall did a good job of guarding him. We've just got to do a better job of trying to get him open. But I think I give Memphis a lot of credit. They did a great job of guarding him. We've got to try to get more shots for him in transition, broken court situations. But in the half court they did an excellent job of just denying him the ball, almost like a box and one."
Â
… if it has been tough to establish a rhythm with postponements:
"You know what, I want to say that because we lost that game, but I don't think it had anything to do with our rhythm. I just give Memphis all the credit. They outplayed us. They played harder. They executed. We didn't make shots. I think we've learned from that game like we do from losses. We had two good practices and all we can do is go with what games we have to play next. And that game is Saturday and we'll be prepared. We're going to have a good practice today. I'm not sure the remainder of the schedule for the week. I'm sure we will have one off day. We're going to scrimmage a lot more in practice since we don't have a game, we want to make it game like in practice."
