Shocker Track and Field Welcomes 26 New Shockers

WICHITA – The Wichita State track and field teams added 26 new members to the team, it was announced Thursday.
 
"I am really excited about what I have seen so far in just a few days in the way these newcomers have hit the ground running," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Steve Rainbolt. I think it's a strong group of newcomers in all event areas. I feel like we have improved ourselves in every event area. I feel like this group will be another strong Shocker track and field and cross country class."
 
The Shockers added eight transfer athletes and 18 true freshmen to the roster. The eight transfer athletes combined for eight All-America honors across the NJCAA and Division II levels.
 
Fourteen of the newest Shocker track and field athletes hail from the state of Kansas, and seven newcomers are from the greater Wichita area.
 
Wichita State also welcomed international faces to the incoming 2020 class. Joakim Genereux and Nicole McMillen hail from Canada and Yuben Goncalves is from Portugal.

Hudson Bailey (Raymore, Missouri; Raymore-Peculiar HS) Multis/Hurdles: Finished seventh in the 110-Meter Hurdles at the 2019 MSHSAA Class 5 State Championships … Took sixth at the 2019 MSHSAA Class 5 State Championships in the 300-Meter Hurdles … Placed fourth in the high jump at the state meet his junior year … Won 14 events during the 2019 season and never placed lower than fourth in the high jump … Won team MVP during the 2019 season … Also played football and basketball in high school … Was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Leadership Team … Made the Principal's Honor Roll three times … Was a Missouri A+ Scholar. Creighton Camp (Andale, Kansas; Andale HS) Throws: Finished ninth at the 2019 KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships in the shot put … Won five events during the 2019 outdoor season, including three hammer throw events in three tries … Competed at the 2020 NSAFx AthleticNET Virtual Nationals … Also competed in 2020 at the Great Southwest Classic and finished as the runner-up in the hammer throw … Holds Andale HS' junior record for the hammer throw … Helped his team win a team state title in 2019 … Also played football in high school and helped Andale win a state title in 2019 … Was a second-team All-District offensive lineman and first team All-District defensive player … His brother, Aidan, also throws for the Wichita State track and field team … Plans to study Finance at Wichita State. Joakim Genereux (Saint-Constant, Quebec, Canada; École Secondaire de la Magdeleine; Vanier College) Sprints: Holds the Quebec provincial record in the U18 200 meters with a time of 21.44 … Finished fifth at the 2018 Outdoor New Balance Nationals in the 200 meters, running a time of 21.81 … Competed at the 2019 Indoor New Balance Nationals in the 55 meters, 60 meters and 200 meters … Also ran at the 2019 Outdoor New Balance Nationals in the 100 meters and 200 meters … Plans to study Computer Science. Yuben Goncalves (Alcena-Alverca, Portugal; Cloud County CC) Sprints/Hurdles: Qualified in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Championships and finished 15th … Took home wins in the 400-meter hurdles, 4X100-meter relay and 4X400-meter relay at the 2019 Cloud County Thunderbird Classic … Took second at the 2019 KT Woodman Invitational in the 400-meter hurdles … Was a two-time Scholar All-American … Was a member of the 2019 NJCAA Track and Field national champion team at Cloud County CC … Plans on studying Electrical Engineering. RJ Hutchison (Choctaw, Oklahoma; Choctaw HS) Middle Distance: Ran on the school's cross country team in 2019 and placed 112th at the state championships … Was a nine-time conference champion in high school … Competed at the Junior Olympics in 2018 and 2019 … Plans to major in Engineering. Kyler Meyer (Valley Center, Kansas; Valley Center HS) Multis: Took 11th at the 2019 KSHSAA State Championships in the triple jump … Helped his school finish 15th at the 2018 KSHSAA 5A State Championships in the 4X800-meter relay … Was an all-conference honoree during his final three years of high school … Also played football and wrestling in high school … Was an all-league honorable mention as a defensive tackle … His father, Jim, played college football at Wayne State University … His sister, Kenisa is also on the Wichita State track and field team. Jaleel Montgomery (Wichita, Kansas; Wichita West HS) Sprints/Hurdles: Won the state title in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2019 KSHSAA State Championships … Also finished third in the 200 meters at the 2019 state meet … Was a member of his school's 4X100- and 4X400-meter relay teams at the state meet in 2018 and 2019 … Won eight races during the 2019 season … Was a member of the Shocker Track Club … Holds his high school's record in the 110-meter hurdles. Brady Palen (Beloit, Kansas; St. Johns HS) High Jump: Won the 2019 KSHSAA title in the high jump, clearing 2.09m/6-10.5 … Also finished third in the high jump at the state meet in 2018 and was the state runner-up in the high jump in 2017 … Was a member of the eighth-place 4X100-meter relay team at the 2019 KSHSAA State Championships … Took 10th in the long jump at the 2019 KSHSAA State Championships, jumping 6.05m/19-10.25 … Won the 2019 Northern Plains League Meet in the javelin with a throw of 45.59m/149-7 … Holds his high school's record in the high jump with a mark of 2.09m/6-10.5 … Also played football, basketball and golf in high school … Was an All-Northern Plains League first team selection in basketball during his junior and senior years … His father, Byron, played golf at Fort Hays State … Plans to study finance at Wichita State. Trey Rios (Wichita, Kansas; Maize South HS) Distance: Won the 2019 KSHSAA 5A Great Bend Cross Country Regional meet with a time of 16:31.8 over 5,000 meters … Took fifth at the KSHSAA 5A State Cross Country Championship in 2019 … Went on to the NXR Heartland Regional Championships where he took sixth and ran a 5K cross country PR of 16:12.4 … Made appearances at the KSHSAA 5A Cross Country State Championships during all four years of high school, never finishing worse than 43rd … Ran track as well in high school, appearing at Regional meets in his first three years … Best regional finish was a sixth-place finish in the 1,600 meters at the Kansas 5A Regional #7 … Earned All-State honors as a junior and senior in cross country … As a senior, he was named to the Wichita Eagle's Cross Country All-Metro team … Holds the Maize South record in the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:21.3 … Plans to major in Entrepreneurship … His father, Hector, was a two-time NAIA All-American while running on the cross country and track teams at Southwestern College … His mother, Cynthia, played tennis at Southwestern College … His aunt, Raquel Rios-Reed, is a three-time Olympic marathon trials qualifier. Audrey Bebermeyer (Anthony, Kansas; Chaparral HS) Pole Vault: Qualified for the state meet in the pole vault three time … Took third at the State Championships in the pole vault in 2019, fourth in 2018 … Was a member of her school's 4X100-meter relay team that placed 11th in 2019 … Won the pole vault at the Central Plains League Meet in 2019 … Also played volleyball and was an All-League Honorable Mention player in 2018 … Was an All-League Second Team athlete in volleyball in 2019 … Lettered all four years in volleyball … Was also a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club … Was her class' valedictorian. Lidia DiLollo (Andover, Kansas; Andover HS) Multis/Hurdles: Competed exclusively in the 100-meter hurdles during her junior season … Took fifth at the KSHSAA State Championships in the 100-meter hurdles … Placed in the top 10 at the KSHSAA 5A State Championships as a freshman and sophomore … Won the 2019 AVCTL Division 2 League Track Meet in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 15.18 … Won her team's sportsmanship award during her senior season … Was also on the volleyball team during all four years of high school … Was a member if her high school's show choir … Her brothers Bradley and James both attended Wichita State … Her brother, Bradley, competed in track and field for two years at Sterling College … Anticipates studying Criminal Justice. Anna Keller (Towanda, Kansas; Circle High School; Cowley County CC; Western Colorado) Distance: Competed previously at Western Colorado and Cowley College … Did not compete in uniform for Western Colorado … Qualified for the 800 Meters, 1,500 Meters and 4X800-Meter Relay in the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor Championships … Finished as the national runner-up as a member of the 4X800-Meter Relay team in 2019 at Cowley College … Qualified in the 800 Meters and Distance Medley Relay at the 2019 NJCAA Indoor Championships … Finished as the runner-up in the Distance Medley Relay in 2019 at the NJCAA Outdoor Championships … Also qualified for the 800 Meters and 4X800-Meter Relay at the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor Championships … Finished third in the 4X800-Meter Relay at the 2018 NJCAA Outdoor and Indoor Championships … Qualified for the NJCAA National Cross Country Championships in 2018 and finished 21st … Won the NJCAA Region VI Cross Country Championships in 2018 … Is one of 10 children in the Keller family … Played basketball in high school … Plans to major in Sociology and Physiology. Grace Lange (Johnstown, Colorado; Roosevelt HS) Jumps/Sprints: Finished as the state's runner-up in the triple jump in just her first year of competing in the event … Took 11th at the CHSAA State Championships in the long jump … Earned six top-three finishes in the triple jump during the 2019 season … Won the triple jump at the Let's Get REAL Invitational during the 2020 indoor season … Also ran on the school's 4X100-, 4X200- and 4X400-Meter Relay teams … Holds her school's record in the indoor and outdoor triple jump, indoor long jump, and 4X100-meter relay … Helped her team win three team state titles … Also competed in cheerleading during her freshman year and indoor soccer during her sophomore and junior years … Was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and qualified for the state competition in Personal Finance … Her father Chris wrestled in college. Madelynn Luster (Minco, Oklahoma; Minco HS) Throws: Was a first team All-Conference honoree in the discus during her sophomore and junior years … Earned first team honors in the shot put during her junior year … Qualified for the Junior Olympics in the shot put and discus in 2018 and 2019 … Was a Junior Olympics All-American in the discus in 2019 … Was a multi-sport athlete in high school as she also played fastpitch softball, slowpitch softball and basketball … Holds the Washington HS discus record … Parents Mike and Donna were athletes at Hillsdale College. Karen Lyvers (Bradenton, Florida; South Florida) Pole Vault/High Jump: Competed at the 2020 AAC Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles and pole vault … Cleared a personal-best height of 3.52m/11-6.5 in the pole vault during the 2020 indoor season … Qualified for the finals at the 2019 AAC Outdoor Championships and finished eighth … Was a 4A state champion in Florida in the pole vault … Ended her senior year with the No. 1 pole vault mark in Florida … Was a varsity soccer player for four years in high school … Her mother, Heather, was a member of the track and field team at UCF … Plans to study Biology BioMed. Semaj McGhee (Jacksonville, Florida; Cloud County CC) Jumps: Finished as an All-American in the high jump and triple jump at the 2020 NJCAA Indoor Championships … Took fifth at the 2020 NJCAA Region VI Indoor Championships in the pentathlon … Qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor Championships in the high jump and finished ninth … Took fourth at the 2019 NJCAA Region VI Outdoor Championships in the heptathlon with a personal-best 3,722 points … Took sixth in the high jump at the 2019 NJCAA Indoor Championships … Also finished ninth at the 2019 NJCAA Indoor Championships in the pentathlon with a personal-best 2,885 points … Plans on studying Health Science at Wichita State. Nicole McMillen (Pickering, Ontario, Canada; Tusculum University) Distance: Won three titles at the 2020 South Atlantic Indoor Conference Championships with wins in the 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and distance medley relay … Qualified for the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships for a second consecutive year in 2019 and finished 92nd … Won individual conference titles at the 2019 South Atlantic Outdoor conference meet in the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase … Qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished sixth to earn All-America honors … Won the South Atlantic Conference's indoor mile race in 2019 with a time of 5:06.43 … Also finished second at the conference indoor meet in 2019 in the 3,000 meters … Finished 59th at the Division II Cross Country Championships in 2018 and was only the third runner in Tusculum history to qualify for the national meet … A former soccer player turned distance runner, McMillen started in all but one of Tusculum's women's soccer matches in her four years on the team … Started running competitively during her junior year of college. Kenisa Meyer (Valley Center, Kansas; Valley Center HS) Jumps/Hurdles: Finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the long jump at the 2019 KSHSAA State Championships … Also helped her school finish third in the 4X100-meter relay at the 2019 KSHSAA Outdoor Championships … Jumped a personal best in the long jump of 5.30m/17-5 during the 2019 outdoor season … Also ran a personal best of 15.51 in the 100-meter hurdles during her junior season … Her father, Jim, played football at Wayne State University … Her brother, Kyler, is also on the Wichita State track and field team. Chidera Okoro (Dodge City, Kansas; Dodge City HS) Jumps/Sprints: Placed 10th at the 2019 Kansas State Championships in the long jump … Ran on her team's 4X100- and 4X400-meter relay teams in 2019 and helped the 4X400-meter relay team take fourth at the state meet … Qualified for the KSHSAA 6A State Championships in the long jump as a freshman and sophomore … Helped her school's 4X400-meter relay team finish fourth at the 2017 Kansas 6A State Championships … Also played volleyball and basketball in high school … Was an all-conference first teamer in basketball during her sophomore and senior seasons and was an all-state honorable mention pick during her final three season of high school basketball … Her sister, Ezinne, is a jumper at Wichita State … Her other sister, Chiamaka, is on the track and field team at Washburn University. Audrey Parson (Lee's Summit, Missouri; Lee's Summit West) Distance: Qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics in 2018 and 2019 … Competed in the 4X400-meter relay, 4X800-meter relay, 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles at the 2018 Junior Olympics … Competed in the heptathlon at the 2019 Junior Olympics and placed ninth … Her best finish at the Junior Olympics came in the 2019 800 meters where she finished as the race's runner-up … Claimed nine all-state honors and four All-America honors overall … Helped her team to three state titles … Also played basketball in high school … Her father, Brad, played college football and baseball while attending Kemper Military School and Ottawa University … Plans to study Exercise Science. Jaazer Ridges (pronounced eye-zjuh) (Murrieta, California; Murrieta Valley HS) Sprints/Jumps: Competed in track and field at her high school in 2017 and 2018 … Had a trio of top-five finishes at the 2018 Great Oak at Murrietta Valley with performances in the long jump, triple jump and 4X100-Meter Relay … Competed at Murrietta Mesa HS during her freshman season … Racked up seven wins during her freshman year in three events combined (100 meters, long jump, triple jump). Personal Bests – Long Jump: 4.72m/15-6; Triple Jump: 11.12m/36-6
 
Jocelen Ruth (Kutztown, Pennsylvania; Oklahoma State) Throws: Was an All-Big 12 athlete during the 2017 indoor season in the weight throw … Finished ninth at the 2019 and 2020 Big 12 Indoor Championships in the weight throw … Took ninth in the hammer throw and 11th in the javelin at the 2019 Big 12 Outdoor Championships. Sarah Schaar (Valley Center, Kansas; Valley Center HS; Emporia State) Distance: Finished 27th at the MIAA Cross Country Championships … Also ran at the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships where she finished 56th and ran a 6K PR time of 22:55.7 … Came in eighth in the 1,600 meters and fifth in the 3,200 meters at the 2019 KSHSAA State Championships … Won four races during her senior year of high school … Qualified for the 2018 KSHSAA 5A Regional #5 Championships in the 3,200 meters and took seventh … Qualified for the 5A Cross Country Championships in 2015, 2016 and 2018 with her best finish coming in 2018 when she came in 29th … Was a member of the National Honor Society in high school … Graduated Cum Laude in 2019 … Won FCA Athlete of the Year in high school … Also played softball and basketball in high school … Was a member of the band, Recycle Club and Varsity Club in high school. Faith Turner (Pittsburg, Kansas; Pittsburg HS) Jumps: Won state championships in the long jump and triple jump during her sophomore and junior years … Placed third at the KSHSAA State meet in the open 100 meters … Won a combined eight competitions in the triple jump and long jump during the 2019 outdoor season … Also played volleyball in high school and was named team captain twice … Came from an athletic family that saw her father Quentin played football at Pitt State and both of her sisters play collegiate athletics as well … Plans on studying Elementary Education. Bre Williams (Wichita, Kansas; Wichita Heights HS) Sprints: Placed in the 4X100-Meter Relay during her sophomore (sixth) and junior (fifth) years … Made it to the Regional meets during her sophomore and junior years as an individual in the 100 meters (sophomore) and 200 meters (sophomore and junior) … Also ran on her schools' 4X400-Meter Relay at the 2019 KSHSAA Track and Field Championships … Competed for Team Wichita Track, Inc. … Also played basketball and volleyball in high school … Was a two-time regional champion in basketball … Her father, Chris, was an athlete at Central Arkansas, and her stepmother, Taylor, was an athlete at Kansas … Was her high schools' valedictorian … Plans to study psychology at Wichita State. Jalyn Whorton (McPherson, Kansas; McPherson HS) Multis: Made it to the 2019 KSHSAA State Track and Field Championships where she ran the 4X400-Meter Relay and helped her team finish 11th … Competed for the Shocker Track Club in 2019 and 2020 … Was a member of the following organizations: National Society of High School Scholars, International Club, Science Olympiad, Kansas Association for Youth, American Legion Auxillary Girls State and MAC Flyers … She was also an AP scholar, senator, reporter, vice chairperson at Girls State and a Kansas Scholar … Her mother, Traci, and father, Gunner, were both athletes at Sterling College … Her uncle, Garrett, was an athlete at Bethel College … Plans to study International Studies and is in the Honors College at Wichita State.
