Two Transfers Added in Spring Signing Period

WICHITA, Kan. - Kenni Henson and Megan Lucas will be transferring to the program after two years of competing at Kansas City to round out a signing class that also includes Wichita native Madison Slayton.
 
"This is such a fantastic opportunity to be able to get both of these girls onto our team," head coach Tom McCurdy said. "They both have gained great experience in their two years at UMKC and, knowing how Coach Portmann expected so much out of her athletes at UMKC, they will be prepared to step right in and contribute at Wichita State."

2019-2020: Played in six tournaments for the Roos… averaged 78.72 over 18 rounds and 1417 strokes with a low round of 74… her best finish of the season came at the UTRGV Invitational with by shooting 17-over par to finish 23rd.
 
2018-2019: Averaged 80.67 over 6 rounds and 484 strokes with a low round of 76... Claimed one top-10 finish as a freshman... Finished tied for 8th at the UNO Invitational after shooting 76, 79, & 77 to average 77.33 at the tournament.
 
High School: Finished fourth at the 2019 Kansas Women's Amateur at Prairie Dunes with a score of +5 (75,75,71)… earned a first place finish at the Kansas Class 6A Regional at Shawnee Country Club with a score of 73… had a first place finish at the AVCTL Division 1 league with a score of 74… won six high school tournaments her senior year at Derby High School, earning her a First Team All-State Kansas Class 6A selection in 2017… also played basketball at Derby.
 
Personal: Born in Wichita, Kansas ... Majoring in Elementary Education... Daughter of Dave and Denise Henson... Has one brother, Jake, who also plays golf at Southwestern.

"Henson is an immensely gifted golfer. She hits it long, has great touch around the greens and has a huge ceiling that she can work towards. She also has a great attitude and her positive personality is contagious."
 
Megan Lucas – Topeka, Kansas
 
2019-2020: Competed in six tournaments for the Roos… averaged a team-low 76.78 over 18 rounds and 1382 strokes with a low round of 73… shot her best collegiate round of +1 at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational… finished 16th at the UTRGV Invitational by shooting 12-over par.
 
2018-2019: Averaged 80.22 over 23 rounds with a low round of 74 ... First appearance as a freshman was at the UNO Invitational, shooting 80-79-77=236 (+20) and finishing 20th overall ... In the WAC championship, shot 79-74-79=232 (+19), finishing T-27th place. Appeared in 8 events for the Roos.
 
High School: Attended Washburn Rural High School.... 2015 Kansas Women's Golf 6A State Runner-Up... 2016 Kansas Women's Golf Team and Individual State Champion... 2017 Kansas Women's Golf 6A Team State Champion... 2017 Centennial League Champion... 3x First Team All-League... 3x First Team All-City... 2x First Team All-State... 2016 City Player of the Year in Topeka... Co-Team MVP 2016 and 2017....Finished 13th at State in 2015... Tied for 9th at State in 2017... 4x Letterman for Golf and Soccer.... 3x Letterman for Basketball
