SEATTLE — Rebekah Topham rounded out the weekend for the Wichita State track and field teams with a massive performance in the 3,000 meters at the UW Invitational inside of the Dempsey Indoor Facility.
Â
Topham won the third heat of the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:16.79. Her time moves her to No. 2 on the Wichita State all-time list. Her time also slots her at No. 5 nationally in the event this year.
Â
Distance coach
Kirk Hunter said he was excited about Topham's race.
Â
"She's had many struggles over the last couple years," Hunter said. "This is validation of all the work she's put in to try to overcome them.Â
Â
"The race went out slower than we had hoped, She was about six seconds off her goal for the 1st mile, but she ran terrific over the second half of the race. Finishing in 32 seconds is pretty impressive at the end of a 3,000-meter race."
Â
Topham now stands second to only multiple time All-American Aliphine Tuliamuk on the all-time indoor 3,000 meters list. Her time is also a five-second PR in the event.

The Shocker track and field teams return to action Friday in two spots: the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite and the Air Force Team Challenge.
