Men's Basketball Team Joins the #Fight4Literacy Saturday

1/4/2020 1:00:00 PM

Wichita State Men's Basketball teams up with Coaching for Literacy in the #Fight4Literacy
Funds raised will give the power of reading to kids at Fundamental Learning Center

WICHITA, Kan. -- Kids all across the state of Kansas are in the fight of their lives. A fight to read proficiently by the end of third grade. In fact, 63 percent of fourth-grade students in Kansas are not reading at the proficient level.

Because life success is directly tied to the ability to read proficiently by the end of third grade, the futures of local kids are on the line every year. That is why Wichita State and Gregg Marshall will host a #Fight4Literacy Game on January 4, 2020 to promote childhood reading and raise funds for the local literacy work of Fundamental Learning Center.

WICHITA STATE SHOCKER FANS CAN GIVE THE GIFT OF LITERACY TO LOCAL STUDENTS

For every $10 contributed by Shocker fans, Coaching for Literacy (CFL) will provide two books to local kids. To learn more text 'SHOCKERS4LIT' to 71-777 or visit http://igfn.us/vf/SHOCKERS4LIT.

Thanks to CFL's Impact Promise, 100 percent of funds raised will stay local and go straight to help young students in Wichita become better readers.

COACHING STAFF SET TO WEAR GREEN AND PROMOTE CHILDHOOD READING

During the #Fight4Literacy the Wichita State Shockers coaching staff will wear CFL's #Green4Literacy awareness kit, showcasing a green tie as well as a green lapel pin and wrist band.

"We want to encourage our fans to join with us in Coaching for Literacy's mission to give every child the ability to read,'' said Wichita State Shockers Head Coach, Gregg Marshall. "Through our #Fight4Literacy Game, we will help young students in our community and create a brighter future."
